What is "Elegant Mind Club" at UCLA?
Our lab was founded by Professor Katsushi Arisaka at Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCLA in June 2013 to better understand the fundamental question of "What is Life?" The lab started with 20 undergrads that summer to understand the basics of our model organism, C. elegans. The lab's primary focus is to educate UCLA undergrads on the workings of a modern physics lab and to study the basic physics laws that define our universe and the life of C. elegans.
The Elegant Mind Club was officially established for UCLA undergrads in Spring 2014 to make our lab more accessible to the UCLA student population and increase interest in this interesting worm. It is the first club at UCLA to give its members unparalleled access to a major research laboratory with the freedom for undergraduates to develop their own experiments and protocols.
Our lab's primary research groups include Microscope R&D and several behavioral groups: Phototaxis, Thermotaxis, E-Fied/Na ion, and the Motion groups. All of the groups also rely on the Biology group for sample preparations, and the biology group is also focusing on the development of C. elegans from egg to adult stages.
